The Right Hound For The Right Family

At Greyhound Pets of America–Houston, our goal is simple: matching every greyhound with the right family. Because every hound has a unique personality, energy level, medical history, and needs—and every family has its own lifestyle, home, and pets—we carefully consider every match to help ensure a successful, lifelong adoption.

As part of the adoption process, GPA Houston conducts phone interviews, an in-home visit, and veterinary and personal reference checks for every applicant. Because these evaluations are completed in person by our volunteers, our adoption area is limited to Houston and the surrounding communities.

GPA Houston considers adoption applications from families with children 6 years of age and older. In rare cases, families with younger children may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Families with children age 12 and younger will receive additional evaluation, education, and guidance to help ensure safe interactions and a successful match—for both the children and the greyhound.

non-refundable $25 application fee is required to begin the adoption process and is waived for current GPA Houston members. Once you've been matched with your perfect greyhound, the $725 adoption fee is due.

We'll be with you every step of the way to help you find the greyhound that's just right for your family.

See the steps below to start your adoption journey:

OUR PROCESS

A non-refundable application fee of $25 must be received to start the process. This fee is waived for GPA Houston members who have paid their current year membership dues. Submit your application fee here.

Phone Review

After we receive and review your adoption application, we will reach out to you via phone to discuss your application in more depth.

4

Reference Checks

Your personal, vet, and home reference checks will be completed. Please be patient during this time.

5

Home Visit

Once your application review is complete, a Greyhound Pets of America - Houston volunteer will contact you to schedule a home visit to meet in person and discuss all-things greyhounds. During the home visit, we look for potential hazards for the dog that the adopter may not have considered. All household members must be present during the home visit. This includes all pets.

6

Finding Your Pet

Once approved to adopt, the search for your dog begins. Volunteers will begin to evaluate pets currently in our foster care program who may be a good fit for you and your family. We will also work with our overseas partners to identify dogs which may be a good fit. Once a match has been made, the adopter(s) will submit the adoption fee of $725.

  • We will not discuss adoption details regarding any particular dog if you have not yet applied to adopt.
