Society Gala
A call came to Houston GPA from a representative of
Houston Grand Opera (whose home is the Wortham Center, downtown Houston)
asking if we would be interested in having two of our members and their
dogs make an appearance at the Society's gala at the Wortham Center. This
event was to be held Saturday evening, April 17, 2004. Our members
would be dressed in period costumes to tie in with the theme of the gala,
and would greet the arriving guests on the sidewalks in front of the Opera
house. The Afghan rescue organization was first
contacted and they indicated they felt that the Afghans had temperament
issues that might make them unsuitable for this outing and they suggested
the retired Racing Greyhound. We were contacted in advance of the
Opera board's approval to see if we would be interested.
GPA/Houston's board President, Sharry MacLaren thought it would be a
"marvelous opportunity" as well did the rest of the board of directors.
HGO
Houston Grand Opera called back and were very excited
that we could send representatives to their event. The names of two
of our members were given to them so arrangements could be made for their
costume fitting. Excitement mounts as we prepare to attend this
stylish event.
Volunteers
GPA Houston members, Nicki Nachenberg and Andrea Berger
were asked if they would like to participate--and David Johnson was able
to take pictures for our organization that evening. Also taking part
in this event were Nicki's husband Jeff, and their son Alex. Thanks to all of
you folks for taking your time to attend this event and to allow more
folks to see your greyhounds!
