IF seeing is believing, then it is doubtful if our audience at the
Missouri City Branch Library truly were convinced when they were told that
greyhounds come in an array of colors. Who would blame them when all 5
volunteers involved in this Greyhound Pets of America presentation showed up
with brindles? We had red brindle... and fawn brindle...and dark brindle...
and light brindle. Interpretations included "tiger-stripes" and fudge ripple
ice cream. Some of us had other color options in our households to bring but
this day went to the brindles. What are the odds? Having said that, the bevy
of brindles brought bodacious bliss to the beguiled brood.
On Thursday, July 15, 2004, GPA volunteers meet
at this branch of the Fort Bend County Library System to share information
about our retired racers with a hands-on opportunity afterwards. With
102 children and 29 adults, the library staff indicated that this was the
biggest turn-out yet. After the initial presentation, there was a spirited Q
& A session with some excellent questions about the greyhounds that were fuel
for further discussion. Not bad for a "one-color" dog breed. It can safely
be said that a great time was had by all.
We would like to thank the Missouri City
Branch Library for inviting us to what was the first opportunity for Greyhound
Pets of America / Houston to be part of their Summer Reading Program. And
it's with true gratitude that we apply their donation to the Special Needs
dog, Gracie. Thanks also go to the library staff for their assistance. As
always, a HUGE thanks goes to our own GPA volunteers who made this
talk the fun, and success, ( and variety...Wha-Hoo! ) it is by giving their
time and bringing their beautiful brindle greyhounds. Joining us this time
were Ace with Lorie Gill, Travis with Scott Bielek, Darby with Noreen Reid,
Sweetpea with Janny Planting, and demo-dog, Phil. Another job well done in
the effort to spread the grey-word.
