Where
there's summer, there's greyhounds...
|
 |
Yet another summer is upon
us, with it bringing another opportunity for GPA to toot it's own horn
about these magnificent creatures. It's always a pleasure "Showing and
Telling" information to individuals who don't know what we, as
greyhound-family members, know already with every look of an eye, cock
of an ear or cuddle on a sofa. How we love our greyhounds!
Greyhound Pets of America volunteers were
invited to George Memorial Library, in Richmond, TX., as part of the
Fort Bend County Library Systems Summer Reading Program. On June 17,
2004, our volunteers, and their pups, schmoozed with children of
various ages and a handful of adults. Everyone seemed truly interested
in greyhound facts BUT the most anticipated and appreciated part of the
hour was the chance to get up-close-and-personal with a living,
breathing, standing (when possible) retired-racing greyhound. Smiles
were everywhere at this encore presentation.
Thanks go out to the Library for inviting
us and for their donation to a special-needs greyhound. Also, a HUGE
thank-you goes to the GPA volunteers who took the time to come be a part
of this presentation. They include: Brittany Spurlock with Jasper,
Robbie Bailes with Ruby, Dara Bailes with Kaz (Dara is Robbie's daughter
and was a welcome guest volunteer), Scott Bielek with Travis,
Laurie Gill with Ace (both first-timers who will always be welcome
back), Jeannie Wehrman with Teddy, Janny Planting with Sweetpea, and
Phil, the demo-dog. Without our volunteers, GPA could not move
forward for our cause. You guys are the best!
